Jason Hoye - Design Detective was my freelance site from 2008 to 2015. In 2008 the landscape was changing from really cool Flash sites to very utilitarian, boxy HTML5 sites. So when I made this site, I wanted to make sure it was responsive, but looked anything but bland, boxy and utilitarian. In fact, I made a site that looked liked it couldn’t be a responsive HTML5 site. I made it look like an old, art deco, printed noir detective book. The site was not only fun to make, but it showed me that just because sites need to be responsive, HTML5 moving forward from 2008, they didn't need to look boxy, bland or utilitarian — they can be fun, elegant, rich and beautiful.
